In 2009, MARR staff created and offered training for families trying to cope with an addicted loved one. In 2010 this seminar, Loving Someone with Addiction, will be offered on a monthly basis to accommodate the number of families seeking help, understanding and direction.
On several occasions therapists and other professionals sat in on the training and without exception thought the training was worthy of continuing education credits. Responding to the requests from clinicians, MARR will also offer a similar training tailored for clinicians only and include CEU hours.
The CEU training includes:
The disease of addiction—covers different theories of addiction, understanding addictive thinking and the difference between substance abuse and dependence.
Addiction: The family disease—describes the symptoms and behaviors of addiction and how they impact family members.
Enabling, rescuing and controlling—teaches to recognize behaviors used by family members as a result of a loved ones’ addiction and to identify new, healthy behaviors.
Identifying and establishing personal boundaries—teaches to establish and maintain healthy boundaries as a primary tool to detach from addictive behaviors while maintaining a loving relationship with the addict. Registration for Loving Someone with Addiction or the CEU training is available on the MARR website— http://www.marrinc.org/event_registration.php
