Right Side Up (RSU), a program of Metro Atlanta Recovery Residences (MARR), is a 9 to 12 month residential substance abuse program for women with dependent children.RSU provides support for lifestyle changes that are necessary to achieve and maintain the removal of substance abuse as a barrier to employment, in retaining or regaining custody of children, and the delivery of drug-free babies.
RSU celebrates the graduation of their clients twice a year; fall and spring.Commencement is truly a memorable event; a culmination of hours of therapy, education and hard work. These hours are staffed by counselors, administrators, staff members, and Junior League volunteers. The Junior League of Atlanta is instrumental in providing financial support for the RSU program, and volunteer support to help guide these women and children through the program. There would be no reason for a graduation ceremony without all hands and hearts working together to teach and direct these young women.
The hands of the JLA volunteers touch our women in so many ways. They offer support to our clients by helping them create resumes and reviewing interviewing skills. Many of our clients do not have a high school diploma, so during their time at RSU, they are tutored in basic literacy and GED preparation workshops by the JLA volunteers.Several times a year, the Junior League hosts parties and/or craft workshops for our clients and their children. These events might include Christmas parties, Easter egg hunts, potted plant and/or wreath making workshops. Our clients and staff truly appreciate the efforts made by the Junior League volunteers to make each event successful.
Mothers that are accepted into the Right Side Up program have been given a second chance; a second chance to live a clean and sober life, and a second chance to be the mom that they want and need to be for their children. With the support of the RSU staff and the JLA volunteers, these women quickly realize that they can no longer look back; the past is over. With their children standing by their side, these women are moving forward to a new life filled with hope and blessings.
