  • Will I have spending money?
Patients are given $50.00 spending money per week. A "Personal Account", (PA) is established upon admission and maintained by the WRC Administrative Assistant. The patient or patient's family may either make a deposit into their account on the day of admission (cash, check, or credit card), or they may do so on a monthly basis.

  • Are groceries included in the cost of treatment?
Yes. Every Thursday each person in your apartment will receive a $25.00 Kroger grocery voucher plus one additional $25.00 grocery voucher for the apartment as well. Patients will go grocery shopping together with their apartment mates and are responsible for turning in their receipts by the following Wednesday.

  • How do I get prescriptions medications filled?
The WRC Staff Psychiatrist and nurse work with patients to facilitate ongoing treatment and medication management on a weekly basis. Because of the specific nature of our clients' needs, WRC has forged a collaborative relationship with an independent pharmacy here in Lawrenceville. This pharmacy allows our patients to keep a credit card number on file to pay for medications and medication refills. If you would like other arrangements made, let us know.

  • Can I receive packages / mail?
Yes, MARR has specific guidelines that must be followed with respect to what patients may receive from family and friends during the course of treatment. Part of the therapeutic process is learning to budget and live within the guidelines set. These principles correlate directly to the disciplines necessary to maintain lasting sobriety. That being said, the following procedures should be followed when sending mail to a patient:
    • All mail is opened in front of the WRC Administrative Assistant. No exceptions.
    • Patients are not allowed to receive mail from any male unless related by blood or marriage.
    • Patients may receive photographs of family and extended family. Please use your discretion when sending photographs. If you personally know people in photographs and can attest to their support of the recovery process of the patient, then they are welcome. Photographs depicting the consumption of drugs or alcohol are prohibited.
    • Please do not send food. If the patient has any special dietary requirements, please inform us upon admission. Even if the patient asks you to send it, check with us first.
    • No cigarettes. Patients will be required to determine how to work the cost of cigarettes into their budget every week should they choose to continue smoking.
    • Paper goods such as notebooks and stationary are welcome. Postage stamps are appreciated. They may also receive pens and office supplies.
    • Phone cards are acceptable.
    • Clothes are fine. Just keep in mind that storage in the apartment is limited. Two-piece bathing suits are strictly prohibited, as is "skimpy" or revealing attire.
    • Make up and toiletries are also fine. However, if there are no ingredients listed or if they contain any form of alcohol, they will be confiscated.
    • Confiscated items will be returned to the patient upon discharge.

  • When can I call my family?
Patients have no phone privileges for the first two weeks of treatment or until their Counselor and community approve. Please be patient. Your loved one will call when she can. During that time, you may write them as often as you wish.

  • Can my family stop by to see me?
Not without prior approval from staff. Visits from family tend to disrupt the process of bonding with one's community members and are detrimental to one's progress in treatment. If, for any reason, family members have the need to come to the Women's Recovery Center, they must call and make an appointment with the patient's Primary Counselor. Patients are at the center until 3:00 pm, so we ask that you schedule your arrival after 3:30 pm. If this is not convenient, call us and we will make other arrangements.

  • Can my family get information about how I'm doing?
Yes. If family members have questions or would like to inquire as to the well being of a patient, please contact our Administrative Assistant, Karen Shogren at 678.805.5170 and she will be happy to direct you to a Counselor who can assist you. However, keep in mind that a release of information with your name on it and signed by the patient, must be on file in order for us to even acknowledge that the patient is here. This is done for their protection and is required by law. We try to limit releases to immediate family, so please advise friends and extended family that you will be happy to update them and that there is no need for them to contact the center.

  • What contact information should I give my family?
ADDRESS AND CONTACT: All mail should be addressed to the patient's attention as follows:
    Patient's Name
    c/o MARR, Inc.
    275 West Pike Street
    Lawrenceville, GA 30045
All mail must have a name and return address or it will be withheld. We do not need releases signed for mail to be received but it may need to be cleared through the Counselor if we do not recognize the name of the sender.

  • What happens to items that are confiscated?
As new patients are admitted, all confiscated items will be given to the WRC Administrative Assistant to log, label and store. Any financial items, (i.e. - credit cards, check books, etc.) will be locked up. (Any items that are confiscated after admission during residential checks will be donated to a local shelter.) As patients are discharged, they will receive the personal items that were confiscated upon admission. Items remaining at our center for longer than 30 days following the date of discharge will be disposed of and/or donated.
